According to Lau, better signage and more tickets at problem areas are improving Titusville’s roads. This is based on police data provided to WESH 2 News for January through May 2023-2024. “What they are doing is using analytics to find out where the hotspots are for traffic accidents. They are doing their traffic operations there. We are using technology,” Lau explained. Data shows that traffic accidents decreased by 16%, DUI arrests increased by 100% and traffic stops increased from 2,522 to 5,527. The Titusville Police Department has identified Cheney Highway and US 1, as well as Garden St and Park Ave, as the main crash areas. In a new development in Brevard County, Titusville’s patrol car lights now automatically adjust when two or more vehicles are responding to the scene, reducing risk. “It’s a game changer,” Lau said. “You see there was a tragedy in Satellite Beach in 1992 where two Satellite Beach officers were killed because the lights were on, someone got carried away and killed them.” According to Lau, having lights that illuminate and connect together increases the visibility of passing drivers and kills them. the authorities themselves. When asked about future plans for his team, Lau revealed, “We’re going to focus on other cities– school campuses.” The Titusville Police Department is highlighting these results as they continue to move toward increased security.
