Olympics today: What to watch
The men’s 100 will be decided and Noah Lyles is expected to be the favorite. Lyles won gold in the 100 and 200 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest. Jamaican runner Oblique Seville could be a contender. In June he ran 9.82 seconds to beat Lyles.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce gives a statement about the late start from the 100m
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, a two-time gold medalist in the 100 meters, suddenly missed the semifinals of the race on Saturday.
On Sunday, Fraser-Pryce issued a statement on social media about withdrawing from the race due to an injury sustained during the warm-up.
He wrote: “It is difficult for me to find words to express the depth of my disappointment. “I know my supporters share and should be disappointed as well.”
Fraser-Pryce won gold in the 100m at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, then won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The 100 would be Fraser-Pryce’s individual event at the Paris Olympics of 2024, as he did not qualify 200.
Olympic basketball today: What to watch
In women’s hoops, the USA plays Germany in group play. Player Satou Sabally is expected to return to Germany after suffering a shoulder injury during Olympic qualification and undergoing surgery. Sabally, who plays for the Dallas Wings of the WNBA, sat out the start of the season as she recuperated.
