Small businesses get in on the action at Shreveport’s Humor & Harmony

Reading time is available for all events taking place at Shreveport’s Humor & Harmony Weekend, August 8-11.

Ticketed events begin Thursday night at City Hall with the sold-out Big Bowl Comedy Show. A similar event will be the G-Dome at Spring and Travis Streets. Admission is $20 per person.

The long list of ticketed events Thursday through Sunday includes everything from a car show at the Shreveport Convention Center to the All White Finale Party at the G-Dome.

And there are some things you can do that won’t cost a cent and some things that will cost – yes, 50 cents – because small businesses have a sense of humor too.

First, the free stuff

There is no charge for browsing, people-watching or browsing pop-up sellers. Commerce Street from Caddo Street to Crockett Street will be pedestrian only. This site will be secure and free to enter.

The inflatable dome at Travis and Spring Streets in downtown Shreveport was inflated Sunday, August 4. It will be used as one of the locations of Humor & Harmony Weekend next, Aug. 8-11.

The G Dome will be lit up after dark with a variety of displays, making this a great time to be in downtown Shreveport, according to event organizers.

The Red River District under the Texas Street Bridge will be open to all ages and free to roam. The city of Shreveport tells us the G-Unit crew is wrapping up their projects there.

The children’s event “50 Fit Park” at the festival will be a ticketed event, but, according to the Humor & Harmony website, it will be “free for school and military children.”

You will buy tickets for this at the Festival Plaza, but there is no information on ticket prices. 50 Fit Park will be open on Friday, August 9, 5 pm to 10 pm Friday, Saturday, 9 am- 9 pm and Sunday, noon-5 pm.

The Shreveport Farmers Market will be held Saturday morning at RiverView Hall at 600 Clyde Fant Parkway. Product vendors will be outside, other vendors will be inside in climate-controlled comfort.

The market runs from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm Crockett Street will be closed, so you will need to find parking and the market via Clyde Fant Parkway.

You can leave the car at SporTran

SporTran offers free shuttles to the Humor & Harmony waterfront and Municipal Auditorium from various locations including Mall St. Vincent.
