The health room gives health workers a satisfying break from their work

Brooklyn, NY NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health has announced the opening of a new health suite for employees in East New York. It is the second of four new health rooms to be established at various Gotham Health locations, and is part of the system’s investment in employee health under its Helping Healers Heal program. This tranquil space, designed in conjunction with WXY Studio, aims to provide a quiet retreat for employees to rejuvenate, de-stress and heal. The room has a visually enhanced environment with beautiful art, soothing music and soothing lighting. Employees can enjoy rest and rejuvenation. In addition, the room provides a place to connect and communicate, allowing employees to support each other and share experiences in a quiet environment. Following the recent opening of Gotham Health, Cumberland in Brooklyn, additional health rooms will include Gotham Health, Belvis and Gotham Health, Morrisania.

The four health rooms at Gotham Health are part of a system-wide project that brings 20 health rooms to the NYC Health + Hospitals workforce. The Jeffrey H. and Shari L. Aronson Family Foundation provided leadership support to support the creation of 20 health rooms. Several other donors also contributed to the project, including the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation and The George Link, Jr. Foundation.

The health rooms are a permanent display of NYC Health + Hospitals’ investment and commitment to employee wellness. These locations ensure that our staff can focus on their needs so that they can meet the needs of the patients they serve,” he said. Julie Torres Moskovitz, Director of Sustainability for WXY, an architecture firm that designed new health facilities. “This project was realized with great collaboration from many different people. The results transform these neutral spaces into spaces filled with art and nature to renew and relax, and we are delighted to see the project take on a life of its own as the doors are now open.”

Helping Healers Heal or H3, is the foundation for improved Wellness programs across all NYC Health + Hospitals services to address the emotional and psychological needs of all employees. The Wellness Program focuses on the following 8 elements of Health:

  • Emotions – coping with life and creating a satisfying well-being for yourself.
  • Environment – Understanding how your social, natural, and built environment affects your health and well-being.
  • Finances – Feeling knowledgeable about current and future financial well-being including preparing for short-term/long-term goals and emergencies.
  • Intellectual – To recognize the ability to create and find ways to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Occupational – Finding satisfaction and meaningful feelings in one’s work.
  • Physical – Acknowledging the importance of exercise, nutrition and sleep
  • Social – Developing a sense of connection, belonging and support from others.
  • Spirituality – Finding the meaning of the larger plan and the meaning of the individual.
