Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide technical approval, engineering design, and preliminary engineering design (FEED) for the Avina facility to produce 120 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year.

“PureSAF is a new, advanced technology that produces a complete jet fuel fungible with standard jet fuel, from a variety of feedstocks at low cost and on an industrial scale,” said Angelica Hull, CEO of Swedish Biofuels. “In addition to processing ethanol, our technology can also convert mixed alcohol, carbon dioxide, and synthesis gas into SAF, creating ways to use captured carbon for a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

“We are pleased to expand our partnership with Avina as it enters the SAF market,” it said Jay Ibrahim, KBR President, Sustainable Technology Solutions. “In 2023, KBR’s K-GreenN® the technology was selected by Avina for its green ammonia project in the US. Avina’s leadership in energy transition projects aligns with KBR’s commitment to implementing decarbonization technologies to advance ESG initiatives. Together with Swedish Biofuels, we look forward to helping Avina adapt to other areas of sustainable growth.

“We are pleased to select the new jet fuel technology offered by KBR for our ethanol-to-sustainable jet fuel project Illinois,” said Vishal Shah, Chief Executive Officer of Avina Clean Hydrogen. “PureSAF’s economic benefits, low carbon footprint, and environmental benefits make it the right choice compared to other technologies.”

KBR remains at the forefront of decarbonization efforts, with continuous innovation and the use of low-carbon technologies to effectively reduce emissions. In 2024, KBR celebrates 100 years of providing clean fuel solutions.
