JJ Peters acquires LW Peters Disposal, keeping the business locally managed

BOB ROLLEY/Sun-Gazette Kyle, Bruce and John Peters stand proudly between JJ Peters’ white dump truck and LW Peters’ red dump truck as they mark the price of LW Peters’ business and equipment, at keep the company local.

A family that works together grows together.

That’s no more evident than the families with JJ Peters Disposal Inc. as they announce the purchase of LW Peters Disposal serving a large number of residential, commercial and institutional customers in Clinton County.

Bruce Peters, his wife, Susie; their son, Kyle, and his wife, Kaylin, and Bruce’s cousin, John Peters and his wife, Dawn, all own the company and together they decided to buy LW Peters, which was run by Ron Peters before his death in 2023.

The Peters said there were a few reasons why they wanted to buy the business, starting with their desire to keep their place.

They also wanted to save and create jobs.

And they make a commitment to all their existing and new customers:

· They have no intention of manipulating or changing prices.

· They will work to provide “Similar services already provided.”

· They “We are committed to holding all employees to the same high expectations.”

But, they said, there are changes underway and will come over time that include:

· Combining routes, making special changes to routes and pick-up dates to help the business run more efficiently. “Our customers will be notified of any changes before any changes are made,” Kyle obliged.

· Eventually, all payments will be able to be made online, without a check in the mail.

· All payments, on time, must be made to JJ Peters as that company has purchased the business and assets of LW Peters.

Route integration requires a lot of coordination, so Peters asks for customers’ patience, Bruce said,

The two businesses share a similar history, John said.

LW Peters was founded in 1956; JJ Peters was founded in 1957.

Ron Peters followed in his father’s footsteps by running the LW Peters business.

Bruce and John say their family business was founded by their grandfather, John Jack Peters, and his wife, Hazel, hence the name JJ.

In fact, Kyle is a fourth generation business owner.

JJ and LW’s families are not related, but it helps that they share a last name.

The new JJ Peters now has 19 employees; they retained the entire LW Peters staff.

“We kept 11 employees, and hired two people,” Kyle said.

They carry eight litters or “packer” trucks, three roll-offs and two hook trucks.

The Peters make no bones about it: Garbage collection and disposal is a competitive business.

They were concerned that a larger, out-of-state company would buy out LW Peters and leave local jobs.

“We work together every day. We do our best to take care of our customers. Ron Peters cared about his customers and his employees and so do we – every single one of them,” Kyle said.

Jay Alexander, general manager of the Wayne Township Landfill, said WTL “Delighted to hear the news that JJ Peters has purchased the assets and business of LW Peters.”

“When two local businesses can find a way to come together, it creates a lot of opportunities based on economic conditions alone,” Alexander said. “Keeping the staff employed locally, keeping the services provided by LW Peters locally, is a win for the region as well.”

Alexander is very familiar with Peters. In fact, Bruce serves on the board of the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority to support the industry.

“This new company is embedded in our community and their decisions are made right here,” Alexander said. “When these larger haulage businesses are bought by companies outside the region, their interests change.

only return to shareholders and not necessarily in the best interests of our region. We look forward to working with this new, bigger and better company. Congratulations to the JJ Peters family on this huge milestone. “

JJ Peters will keep his store at 212 James St. Flemington, where the business is based.

LW Peters had purchased the old Agway store at 76 Pennsylvania Ave. Mill Hall.

They intend to continue using both locations to run JJ Peters – they accept discount payments for both – but say the Mill Hall location will keep the trucks and be them. “The basis of action.”

Both phone numbers – 570-748-4831 and 570-748-7957 – will remain active.

Mill Hall staff – Steph, Wendy and Donna – are there to help customers.

Part of owning a business is giving back to the community, something Peters is proud of.

The firm provided free disposal services at the Regatta and other events. They will extend that kindness by following in Ron Peters’ footsteps of giving away freebies at select events.

“We try to give back as much as we can,” Kyle said, referring to their support of the upcoming Truckers 4 Hope event, which supports the Clinton County Economic Partnership and Clinton County 4H, among others.

“We are a working family and we value the community,” is how Bruce described the group.
